You offer a personal training concept that is oriented to people that are very busy professionally.
What is your approach?
“Studies have shown that physical fitness not only has an effect on health and well-being, but rather that physically fit managers are also more balanced and make significantly fewer mistakes. A study at the University of Ulm observed an endurance running group for six weeks. The result: concrete performance improvements in visual-spatial memory were measured as a result of exercise in the fresh air. The athletes dealt with thinking processes better, experienced better moods and performed cognitively better than an inactive test group. Fitness makes you more successful.”
That means that endurance sports are especially suitable for people who have to perform well?
“Well, anyone can and should perform endurance sports. But this balance seems to be a source of great strength for managers. In a study of the Deutscher Führungskräfte Verband (German managers association) carried out on behalf of the WirtschaftsWoche, 86 percent of those surveyed indicated that physical fitness is also important to them with a view to professional success. According to the study, three of four managers participate regularly in recreational sports. An interesting article on these studies can be found at WirtschaftsWoche.
Why should I also set up appointments for personal training in my free time?
“Those who are regularly physically active know the feeling: it’s easier to relax. You sleep better and you are more balanced and in a better mood when the body has the possibility to metabolise and sweat out toxins and stress waste products through exercise. Accordingly, it’s not just about success, but about doing something for your own sense of well-being, combating bad moods and stress, and promoting your own health. In this way you can also avoid burnout and do something for yourself. Ideally, a solution to a problem about which you had been thinking for a long time may appear unexpectedly while exercising.”
Do I really need a personal trainer?
“Those who know which sport will remain fun over the long term, how the exercises are carried out properly, and who can motivate themselves, can carry out their training programme all on their own. I’m happy to provide instructions so that you can train on your own later. I’m the one that helps you overcome your weaker self until you’ve found your own rhythm. Experience shows that personal training in the intense one-on-one situation is often more varied and the calorie consumption higher than with solo training.”
What does a typical training unit look like?
“I offer my clients training that is customised to their personal needs, when and where they want. Not everybody wants to spend their free time in a fitness studio or always train on machines. My highlight is a training unit on the Elbe River in Hamburg, for which I’m happy to pick you up at home. Endurance sport reduces stress and aggression. One is often very tense before training, with a head mired in problems. During the training you can really relax and feel full of energy again afterwards.”
